Idwala Lodge is a private reserve lodge designed for syndicated ownership on the Big Five Nambiti Private Game. Built on the crest of a hill overlooking the Sundays River, the site offers dramatic bush views over the reserve. A group of simple, thatched buildings are set around a secure 'kraal' space scattered with aloes and acacia trees, anchored by an undulating rough stone wall. The largest of these accommodates living spaces and opens on two sides to an expansive cantilevered deck and lap pool. Five thatched sleeping pods are set on the east and west of the 'kraal' space yielding magnificent views and privacy. Construction of the buildings employed stone collected on site, gumpoles and thatching grass gathered on the reserve in combination with large expanses of glass and oxidized steel, to create a uniquely contemporary lodge in a remote environment.
